Welfare

The welfare of our equine friends is always a top priority.

Should you have any concerns over the well being of an equine here in the Borders please contact our local Welfare Officer for help and advice - see information below.

BHS Welfare Information

Here in the Borders, we have an experienced, qualified BHS Welfare Officer who offers support to those who need it, particularly during the gruelling winter months.

If you have concerns about, for instance, horses or ponies which you’ve seen in possible distress, or if you’re having difficulties yourself, please call the BHS Welfare Helpline (no. below) and they’ll pass this info. to our Field Officer, who won’t ‘judge’, but can give advice and support.

Additionally, when the time eventually comes that you have to make the sad but very brave decision to say ‘goodbye’ to your much-loved equine best friend, help is at hand to support you, by phone and in person.
We in the Borders are lucky that our BHS Welfare Officer has ‘been there’ over many years – and additionally, has been comprehensively trained by the BHS specifically to offer personal support before, during and following this difficult time, so you don’t ever have to feel alone.

The BHS National Welfare Helpline is: 02476 840 517

For ‘goodbye’ support, please e-mail: friendsattheend@bhs.org

For serious and for ‘out-of-hours’ problems, please call: 075 999 66 121 or 07968 599 840 and you’ll be able to receive immediate and direct help from our local Welfare Officer.
